Each morning on a Construction Pros job site begins with a “Toolbox Talk” led by the superintendent.
Toolbox Talks include time spent reviewing job site safety, whether it be a reminder to use personal protection equipment (PPE) or the need to be constantly alert and aware of the site environment.
During this time, safety guidelines are reviewed with the goal of maintaining zero injuries reported on the site. We may go over the basics, such as the importance of wearing hard hats, safety glasses and high visibility vests. Or perhaps we will review fall protection measures, such as when it is critical to use a lanyard. We always remind each member of the crew of the valuable role they play.
Just a few minutes can go a long way, says Superintendent Eric C. Burnett.
“I speak to the men every day, motivating them to do their part to make Constructions Pros the best,” Burnett says. “My motto: lead by example.”
Before sending the guys off to work, Burnett and other superintendents will also take a moment to express their gratitude.
“We shake hands, show respect, and aspire to excellence,” says Burnett.
